After some tragic circumstances and a challenge filled time outside the ring, Tony Jones will step back through the ropes for the first time since 2018 on October 1st at the H Suite in Birmingham.
Before his enforced hiatus, the Telford native had put together an impressive unbeaten nine fight record and was on the verge of an area title shot but now has to start over.
“I haven’t set unrealistic targets for the second half of my boxing career, a big motivation is just to get back in there and put on a good performance for my family and friends. I have been through a lot since my last fight, but I can’t wait to step back through the ropes”.
His time out of the professional ring has been spent in part serving his local community, working at the Len Woodhall Community Boxing Club in Telford. The gym environment is something Tony loves and after a change in personal circumstances he is now able to train harder than ever.
“Strange thing is even though I wasn’t boxing myself I have never spent more time in the gyms than I have the last few years. I love giving back to the local area working with the kids and giving my time for something positive”.
Jones will have the experienced ex pro Kieron ‘Slammer’ Gray in his corner on fight night and the two men have built up a solid partnership.
“My trainer and I have built a great relationship these last eighteen months and I have been able to get great sparring with a real mixture of partners. We have been able to train at the BCB gym with those guys and I am ready to shake off the ring rust. I have really enjoyed working with Paul Mann and know I will be in the best possible shape come the 1st.
“I am a very spiritual person and open minded, it has helped me overcome some very hard times. This next step in my career I want to be known as Tony ‘Spiritual Warrior’ Jones”.
