Dudley Debut For Williams

BCB Promotions newest signing, Blaine Williams, will make his highly anticipated first steps in the paid ranks on July 19th at Dudley Town Hall on the undercard of ‘Summer Showdown’.

“Getting paid to work out and fight is a dream, said Williams. It has taken a while waiting for my license and all the checks, but now I’m just very excited to get in there and make my debut.

The 29-year-old from Selly Oak was a late comer to the sport and, like many, found his first route into boxing in the white collar game before a short but successful stint as an amateur.

“My boxing journey is not the usual story of the kid who walked into the gym aged ten; I only started three years ago and never did anything in the sport before that. I had two white collar fights, and I think I did far better than my opponents were expecting. I started to get the buzz for it, and that’s when I joined the amateurs. I won the majority of my fights, and knowing that time was against me and we had to speed things up, we had a conversation and decided now was the time to turn pro.

“There is a lot to learn. I think some people believe that if you are fit and can throw heavy punches, that’s enough, but there is a lot of technical skill in the head movement and the foot movement, which I have been working on constantly.

“I’m lucky to say I have great people behind me who believe in me and my journey. My partner has been really supportive, helping with prepping meals and getting on at me to make sure I am drinking enough water, and she has been my rock.

Williams education in the sport has come across gyms in the West Midlands sparring some of the best prospects in the region, but Priory Park ABC in Dudley is where he calls home.

“Other coaches in gyms have said I have more of a pro style in that I set up what I do rather than in the amateur game, which is more fast-paced and just constantly throwing punches. My natural ability will only get me so far, so I know how hard I will have to work to be successful.

The show, which is headlined by Ben Collins, is also set to feature an unbeaten trio of prospects, Conor Baker, Jasmin Harmitt, and Jamie Edwards, as well as another debutant, Callum Latimer.

Tickets for ‘Summer Showdown’ are now priced at £40 standard and £80 ringside VIP from the boxers directly or by emailing info@bcb-promotions.com.
