Baker Buzzing To Make His Pro Debut

Conor Baker is ready to let loose as he makes his professional debut on the under card of the sold-out Ryan Kelly River Wilson-Bent show October 27th at the Holiday Inn in Birmingham.

The twenty-six-year-old from Tipton has boxed since he was eleven but finally decided to join the paid ranks following conversations with his girlfriend’s father who will be in his corner on fight night.

He trains at the Anchor Gym with his coach Mark Richards a former boxer himself who had over 100 amateur bouts and represented England before joining the paid ranks.

“Family has played a big part in my boxing story, my cousin boxed and then I started soon after, but it was bit on and off till I was eighteen. I could have maybe done more with the amateur side of things, but I was done with that and then I thought about turning pro.

“I sorted out my medical, my licence and was training but then Covid happened, and those plans were put on hold”.

Despite this initial setback, Baker who works full time in a physically demanding job laying water mains on building sites and various other complex digging roles has embraced training and it’s become a big part of his day to day routine.

“I am really dedicated to boxing now, I train every day, evenings and weekends around my work. I’m up early swimming at 6am and then I put in the time at the Anchor Gym on the night.

“It’s my first fight so I will be matched with someone tough and durable, so I need to box smart and wait and counter. If I feel like the stoppage is there, I will take it, but I am happy to get the rounds in. It’s a great show to be a part of and it is no surprise that it has already sold out with a really good main event”.

Tickets for the Holiday Inn, Birmingham show on October 27th are now sold out so the only way to catch the event is on our official YouTube channel BCB Promotions @UKOBoxing
