Mykey Learning On Job

Mykey-Lee Broughton is learning on the job as he rounds off his year with another four-round contest tonight.

Broughton has quadrupled his pro fight experience in 2022, after debuting in October 2021 while under the tutelage of Asgar Tair, outpointing Jamie Quinn through a 40-36 points landslide.

The new year brought with it a change of coach, Anthony Manning taking over his training at Manning’s Gym, in his home city of Birmingham.

Broughton, who is from Acocks Green, boxed under the BCB banner, for the first time at the H Suite in Edgbaston, defeating Fonz Alexander through another 40-36 points whitewash.

Two months on from that July date, the 21-year-old lightweight notched another win, come the end of September, at the Eastside Rooms.

Stu Greener played his part in a competitive affair, but Broughton again got through it without dropping a round. Greener did pinch a share of a session, the final result being 40-37.

Broughton appeared here at the Hangar last month as he eased past Logan Paling 40-36 and he’s ready to go again tonight.

Broughton continues to transition from the amateur ranks, where he amassed 30 victories from 33 bouts, representing Birmingham City Boxing Club and later O’Dells.

He said: “I’ve pretty much just straight rolled over, with training. I’m happy with my sparring, too, against some good lads (such as Hamza Ahmed and Dylan Cheema).

“I had a late start to the year. I didn’t box until July, so I’m making up for lost time and this will be my fourth fight since. I’m getting out there, as much as I can.

“I’d be happy with 4-0, all things considered, and it was a good learning fight for me last time, compared to my first two, when the other lads barely touched me.

“It’s about trying to pick the right opponents and we are always looking for different styles, which will bring me on. I want to be tested.

“It’s always been my plan to be pushing for titles next year and I need to keep climbing the rankings, then see what’s available for me.”
