Foster Aiming To Finish Year On A High

Brad Foster is aiming to finish a disappointing 2022 on a winning note to re-establish himself as a contender at super bantamweight.

His return to action comes when he’s a part of BCB Promotions’ final bill of the year at the Hangar Events Venue, in Wolverhampton, on Friday night (December 16).

‘The Blade’ was on a roll heading towards October of last year, before a loss on points to Jason Cunningham saw him lose a selection of titles.

Cunningham went home with Foster’s British, Commonwealth and IBF International standing and retained his European crown, in the process, through a unanimous verdict.

Foster had the chance to rebound in May, only to be beaten again unanimously by Ionut Balouta, this time over 10 rounds, for the vacant WBC International bauble.

That leaves the 25-year-old, from Lichfield in Staffordshire, looking to recapture the form that saw him win the British strap, inside just 10 pro contests.

He’d already claimed Midlands honours in his ninth pro outing, at the expense of Leon Gower, and went on to claim a Lonsdale belt.

After seeing off Josh Wale for the British title, Foster went on to successfully defend against Ashley Lane (also becoming Commonwealth champion), Lucien Reid and James Beech Jnr.

Foster now engages in the 19th fight of his pro career, with 14 victories and five TKOs, along with two defeats and a couple of draws, to Brett Fidoe and in a first meeting with Reid.

He turned pro less than two months after his 18th birthday, in December 2015, and had already reigned as a successful kickboxer during his teenage years.

Foster took up kickboxing at the age of nine and picked up nine world titles at four weights, over 59 bouts, which resulted in 56 wins, two losses and a draw.

Further accolades included five European crowns and two British titles and a couple of Five Nations prizes, before deciding to take up boxing instead.

Tickets for the Hangar bill are available, priced at £40 standard or £75 VIP ringside with buffet, from the BCB Box Office by calling 07493 582 261 or visiting myfighttickets.com.
