Smith Out To Impress Again

Samuel Smith put on a superb performance last time out and was unfortunate to have to settle for a draw against the experienced River Wilson-Bent in just his third fight. The fourth will come on May 18th when he steps through the ropes at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay on BCB Promotions ‘Clash On The Coast’.

That drawback in September saw the unbeaten 30-year-old from Plymouth head to the Midlands to take on the former English Title challenger, and the full-time farmer is keen to get back in the ring and build towards another big fight while being able to box back in the south west.

“I thought it was a close fight, said Smith but I was landing the cleaner punches throughout the eight rounds. The referee scored a draw, and I know when you are in the away corner in the guys hometown, it feels like you have to knock them out or you won’t get the win.

Smith trains out of the Launceston Boxing Club and will have his brother Wesley in the corner come fight night. The super middleweight turned professional back in 2022 with a points win over Martin Shaw and followed that up with another points victory, this time against the unbeaten Alfie Gaskin at the York Hall in London.

“Fighting nearer home is great, but for me, the main thing is keeping active again, I’m always fit and keep myself ready, so when the phone rings for an interesting opportunity, I can take it. It isn’t easy to get great sparring down here, but I have a very manual job, so when it’s busy, like during lambing season, I am keeping fit. The home support will push me on a bit more. I have a big family, so it will be nice to have them there.

“I’d like to box for a title at some stage, but any fight that pushes me up the rankings, I would consider taking. My focus, though, is on May 18th, and then we will see what opportunities the rest of the year brings.

Tickets for Clash on the Coast which also features Ben Andrews, Harry Webb, Harry Armstrong, and the professional debut of Zakk Turnstill are available now priced at £40 standard and £80 VIP ringside from the boxers directly or by emailing info@bcb-promotions.com.
