Scarrott Gets Busy

James Scarrott sees his future at super lightweight as the young prodigy gets busy on his fledgling pro journey.

More ring action will come when BCB Promotions return to the Hangar Events Venue, in Wolverhampton, on the Sunday afternoon of October 30.

The teenager, from Worcester, is making waves within his debut year, having only become eligible to become a professional when turning 18, on December 22 of last year.

Since then, Scarrott has racked up three spotlessly-clean points successes at the welterweight limit, finally tackling MJ Hall last time out.

The two had been paired for his debut and subsequent dates, getting it on at the fourth time of asking, due to various circumstances leading to call-offs.

One was literally hours away from the contest, with the show cancelled as a mark of respect due to the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, just hours previously.

When they did get it on, a trio of 40-36 points shut-outs went to Scarrott after he dealt with left-hander Hall in due course, in another welter collision.

This training camp has seen Scarrott reach super lightweight status, having beaten bigger men at welter with Dean Wilkinson, Paul Scaife and Hall already vanquished.

An amateur grounding stands him in good stead, having represented hometown outfit Worcester City Boxing Club on 30 occasions, before turning over.

Scarrott said: “It’s about keeping the momentum going. I only had a week off, after my last fight, and then I was straight back on it in the gym, with plenty of sparring.

“I find it easier to pick your fitness up again, when you’ve only boxed recently, as there isn’t a whole lot to rebuild. I’ve stayed fit and I’m ready to go again.

“I do lots of running back home in Worcester and I’m driving down to BCB (gym, Wednesbury) four times a week to train, which is over 30 miles each way.

“I’m a landscaper, too, which normally quietens down this time of year, but I’ve still got a lot on. I’m normally up at 6am and then straight to BCB after work, so they are long days!

“It was good to finally share a ring with MJ (Hall) last time, I felt I’d have been waiting forever! I was more than ready for him, as I’d been preparing for so long.

“I’d gone through three training camps, with him as my opponent, and it was my best performance to date when it finally happened.

“He told me how tough he found it in there. I was catching him good, to the body and head. I picked my shots, a lot more because he came to have a go and was walking on to punches.

“I’m happy to keep making progress and, now I’m at a new weight, I’ll be looking to step up properly next year. That’s when I can start to look at titles.”

Tickets for the Hangar bill are available, priced at £40 standard or £75 VIP ringside with buffet, from the BCB Box Office by calling 07493 582 261 or visiting myfighttickets.com.
