Quartet of Home Wins in Birmingham

BCB Promotions did well to keep Friday’s fight card alive after losing its top of the bill and two chief support fights.

Walsall’s Shaun Cooper failed to make weight for his much-anticipated Midlands Area Super Featherweight Title fight with Nottingham’s Joe Underwood-Hughes whilst Troy Jones and Connor Goodchild also had to miss out with opponents pulling out at late notice.

To his credit Underwood-Hughes stayed on the card and opened the show with a comfortable win over Dudley’s Jalfius Fraure. Underwood-Hughes boxed well to record a 40-37 win.

Birmingham’s Jarrett Doherty took his record to 3-2 with a 40-36 win over Paul ‘Big Sexy’ Cummings. After losing two of his first three fights, Doherty has put back to back wins together this year as the 33 year-old looks to push on.

Birmingham’s Mykey-Lee Broughton made it a hat trick of wins as he navigated past the always tricky Stu Greener.

In what was the fight of the night, Broughton was pushed all the way by Greener who worked well on the inside, landing with the overhand right at will. Broughton’s shot selection will have pleased his coaches and he showed good footwork at times to manoeuvre Greener in order to land. Both boxers also stood and traded, making for a great little contest.

Popular Brummie Tommy Collins closed the show with a solid showing against Bulgaria’s Georgi Velichkov.

The likeable Bluenose is in good form in 2022 and pleased his army of fans with a patient and composed performance against his tricky Sofia-based opponent.

Velichkov’s compact style took Collins a little while to figure out but he remained patient and stepped in and out of range to get six more rounds under his belt. Collins picked up a deserved 60-54 shut out.
