13th Unlucky For Some Review

BCB Promotions first show of 2022 took place last night at a packed H Suite in Birmingham.

The busy Black Country Boxing Promotions outfit returned to action after boxing was curtailed throughout January by the British Boxing of Control.

West Bromwich light heavyweight, Josh Stokes, topped the bill against Croatia’s Stanko Jermelic.

Pawing out his jab and controlling the pace of the bout, Stokes eased to a 40-36 decision as he moved to 6-0.

Walsall’s Darnell Duut and Wolverhampton’s (via Italy) Traian Tudosache played out fight of the night as the pair went toe-to-toe throughout four absorbing rounds.Duut was making his debut whilst Tudosache had one draw to his name, having made his debut in late 2021, going into the fight.

Both men stood and traded and, at times, probably took more shots than they, and their coaches, would have wanted. It made for a fight-fan-friendly contest though and entertained the crowds for 12 breathless minutes.

Tudosache probably did enough to get the decision but it was scored a 38-38 draw and hopefully the welterweight pair can do it all again. Great fun.

At the fourth time of asking, Worcester’s Ameen Khalid finally made his professional debut.Lightweight Khalid’s opponent walked out after weighing in last time out after a foot injury and then the COVID-19 outbreak had already put paid to his pro ranks bow.It was worth the wait though as he got the nod 39-37 over Romania’s Constantin Radoi.

A third of four debutants on the card probably put in the most impressive of first displays as Connor Goodchild turned over to the pro ranks in style. The Birmingham welterweight threw everything at the teak tough Paul Cummings, again over four rounds. His shot selection and footwork impressed as he coasted to a 40-36 win.

Worcester super welterweight, Tom Brennan, moved to 3-2 with a 40-37 victory over Birmingham’s Josh Hodgins. Brennan is learning on the job as he looks to secure a shot at a Midlands Area Title.

Completing the card was Exeter’s Shannon Willey who made the long trip up to Birmingham for his professional debut. The Devon based super welterweight took on 82 fight veteran Naeem Ali. Willey boxed well to record a 40-37 win.

BCB Promotions are in Wolverhampton this coming Friday (18th February). Tickets for ‘Havoc At The Hangar’ at the Hangar Events Centre are available via MyFightTickets.com.
