Darren Surtees has waited over two years for the opportunity to get back to winning ways and steer his promising career back on track.
He will get the chance to do just that at the H Suite in Edgbaston, Birmingham, on the Friday night of December 17, as part of a show staged by BCB Promotions
Surtees was 12-0 and going great guns in the super lightweight division, before entering the MTK Golden Contract tournament in late 2019.
It was a risk that was worth taking – the winner of each competition was guaranteed a two-year, five-fight deal that guaranteed a six-figure purse, for each appearance.
But a tough draw landed him with former European and IBO world champion Mohamed Mimoune, who was never beaten for either crown.
Surtees took it to him, scoring a knockdown in the second round, before being dropped and stopped himself in the fifth.
His ‘0’ went with it, but that remains the only blemish on the pro record of the Northern area title holder, who hails from Thornley in County Durham.
And Surtees should still possess the punching power that put away eight of his pro opponents, six of them within the first two rounds.
He was only five fights into his pro career when he boxed for the area belt, with Ross Jameson down twice, having sustained a broken jaw, before the finish came in the sixth.
Tickets for the H Suite bill are available now, priced at £40 standard or £75 VIP ringside with buffet, directly from the boxers or by visiting myfighttickets.com.
