Jermaine Osbourne-Edwards want’s his name up in lights and title fights but first he must deal with his next opponent on December 3rd at the Hangar Events Venue in Wolverhampton
The unbeaten contender who lives in Pendeford but grew up on the Dovecotes estate has boxed all of his previous eight professional fights at the same venue and has grown in to his role as a headline act. A natural southpaw, he has honed his skills at Wolverhampton Boxing Club under the close watch of coach Richie Carter, who he has been with since joining the paid ranks in 2021.
A late starter in the sport after a troubled period in his life that by his own admission could have seen him turn down the wrong path, the boxing gym became a positive escape and he represented Merridale Boxing Club as an amateur ten times, winning nine.
His last fight in September was against the experienced Naeem Ali who took the contest on just a couple of days’ notice so rather than the eight rounder he was hoping for he had to drop back down to four. It went the distance with Osbourne-Edwards winning all four sessions which has become a bit of habit with him having only dropped one round in his career.
“Fight week last time out was tricky with the last minute opponent change meaning I could only get in a four rounder after boxing six rounds the previous three times. I won comfortably and left their with the victory, if the fight had been any longer I would have got the stoppage as I could feel him tiring.
“It’s hard to get in the right opponents at this stage as fighters don’t want to do the longer distance with me but I can’t worry about that I just have to do the job on the night against whoever I am in with”.
Boxing in the Midlands has had a real spike of late with the TV networks returning to Wolverhampton and the city gaining a European champion in BCB’s Tyler Denny, opportunities on these shows can be hard to come by but it is what the ‘Kundalini King’ is targeting.
“I’m 34 now so I want a big fight, the Midlands title was in my plans and it still might be but I want a big name regardless of whether there is a belt. Sky coming to Wolverhampton Civic Hall showed the strength of the sport in the city and I want a bit of that. If it’s not Sky I really want a decent name and Campbell Hatton over o DAZN is an obvious one I would like to be in with”.
“Training for this one is going great as always, the gym is always busy and Richie has sorted me out some great sparring with Tommy Collins who boxes the same weekend as me. It has been good to get in with some new faces as well, I’ve done rounds with Elliot Whale and Stephen Newns Jnr who are both top prospects”.
“I appreciate the support that I continue to receive especially so soon to Christmas and money isn’t easy for people but they keep turning out and I want to repay them with a big performance before I make the step up next year”.
