Khalid In Action

Ameen Khalid believes that he should be returning to the ring as the Midlands super featherweight champion.

The wait for his first title fight goes on as he resumes action at the Holiday Inn Queensway, in Birmingham city centre, on Friday (June 16), under the BCB Promotions banner.

He had been matched for an opportunity at area glory in March, against Joe Underwood Hughes, for the vacant crown, but their 10-round contest never took place.

The withdrawal of Underwood-Hughes, a week before they were due to clash, left insufficient time to find a replacement, or even an opponent for a lesser distance.

Khalid had been hoping to box a six-rounder instead, having never been past four rounds, but never ended up without a competitive run-out at all.

That left the unbeaten 26-year-old, from Worcester, stuck at 4-0, with three points successes and a TKO, from his last outing in October of last year, over Dean Jones.

Jones succumbed to an onslaught in the fourth of sixth scheduled rounds, meaning that Khalid didn’t get to the unchartered territory of the fifth and last sessions.

He’s also outpointed Liam Richards, Simas Volosinas and Constantin Radoi, in four-rounders, and registered 40-36 landslide score-lines over Richards and Volosinas.

Khalid made his pro debut against Radoi, in February of last year, and prevailed through a 39-37 verdict, conceding a round and coming out on top in the other three sessions.

That was after the best part of three years out of action, due to the pandemic delaying his pro debut and two fight dates falling through in 2021.

Him and his scheduled opponent, Danny Allen, were both on-site when Allen pulled out, on the day, before a foot injury to Khalid later cost him a meeting with Stu Greener.

Khalid wrapped up his amateur career in 2019, after racking up 25 wins from 35 bouts, representing hometown outfit Worcester Boxing Club and claiming three area titles.

Tickets for the Holiday Inn bill are available, priced at £40 standard or £75 VIP ringside, directly from the boxers or by visiting myfighttickets.com.
