Nothing could be further away from Traian Tudosache’s profession when he laces on a pair of boxing gloves.
He will become a paid fighter when it’s show-time in the Stadium Suite at Walsall FC’s the Banks’s Stadium, on the Sunday afternoon of September 26.
His pro debut comes at the age of 29, having settled in Wolverhampton after leaving his homeland of Italy to become a nurse for the NHS.
He brought his sporting aspirations with him from Rome, which began with kickboxing before he switched to boxing as an adult. After a handful of amateur bouts in the Italian capital, Tudosache linked up with Brooklands Boxing Club in Dudley, shortly after his arrival in the Black Country.
Brooklands is run by former professional boxing champion Darren McDermott, who took Tudosache under his wing as his grounding continued.
McDermott has now passed him on to pro trainers Richard Ghent and Robert Wright, with his tutelage now based at the RG Box Fit gym in Bilston.
Tudosache believes his natural instinct is to fly into battle and trade blows, but he explained how he’s been adding more to his game for the pro ranks.
His introduction will come at welter, after a tough training camp coupled with working long shifts in Wolverhampton’s hospitals.
He said: “I’m a qualified staff nurse, so I spend my time between the New Cross and West Park (Rehabilitation) hospitals. I live near West Park.
“I came to England from Italy six years ago, I wanted to see the world a bit and time certainly goes fast. The people in Wolverhampton have been really nice to me.
“I started kickboxing when I was a child, but I didn’t take up boxing until I was 18, about the same time as I went to university in Rome. It’s just sort of gone from there.
“I boxed for a club called Gladiators back home, I reached a national final in Italy, but lost on points. Then I left for England and started it again over here.
“I probably had 30 fights for Brooklands, I’ve got a few TKOs and never been stopped myself, I’ve always wanted to turn pro and let’s see how we go.
“I love boxing, which makes the training all worth it although, obviously, I have to strike a balance between that and working nights, a lot of the time.
“I will see how I get on at welter, but I reckon I could also make super lightweight. Either way, you can expect me to put on a fight.“I’ve not exactly got the classic Floyd Mayweather style, I like to get stuck in and I’m not afraid of what can happen. I think I’ve got a good chin.
“My coaches (Richie Ghent and Robert Wright) have made some good improvements to me, such as getting me to use my jab, find my range and keep my hands up.
“I’m looking to being a pro, I think the smaller gloves and longer rounds will be more like my game. I can be a slow starter, but I’m working on that and I want to put on a good show.”

Birmingham’s boxing fan with a license, the ever popular Kane Baker, is action alongside Walsall’s two-weight Midlands Area Champion, James Beech Jr.
Two other debutants complete the card with Worcester’s Ameen Khalid and Bloxwich’s Lewis Morris making their pro bows alongside Tudosache.
